Introduction and Features
Case reviews are getting so popular these days, it's hard to find something that hasn't been reviewed time and time again. I know we've done our fair share of them here at LWD, and in all fairness, you can probably find half-a-dozen other sites who have reviewed the same product we're reviewing here today. With that said, I'm going to try something a little different this time around. I want to simplify things for you, and make it easier for you to get what you want to get out of reading this. Instead of writing 15 different paragraphs about each and every section of this case I'm going to cut out all the lenthy wording and paragraph formatting on my end, and concentrate more on providing you with excellent images of the case along with an easy to follow summary of what it has to offer. After all, who wants to spend 30 minutes reading 4 pages of text about what a case has to offer when it can easily be condensed into a few paragraphs.

This review has been sponsored by two different companies. I know it sounds strange, but it's true. MPCParts, and MWave are both being credited for making this review possible. I'm not going to stand in between these two vendors and sort out the ugly details if you want to buy this case. Deciding which company you want to deal with is entirely up to you. In the long run, this might even benefit you - as both vendors will be competing with each other on the price and the level of customer service they're willing to provide. This case is currently selling between $69 and $75 US dollars.

El Galleria

Full frontal view of case. Faceplate is plastic, and the door covering the bottom three drive bays is hinged on the left side.

Full rear view of case. Two exhaust ports are available. Fans for exhaust ports are not included.

Close up of the front door covering the bottom three drive bays.

Front mounted media ports: USB 2.0, Mic, headphone, (firewire optional). The door is moderately sturdy, and clicks into place well.

Large power and reset buttons, with power LED and drive activity LED on the right hand side.

Standard I/O ports with optional network port available. Five small holes to the right could become an entry point for dust if intake fan volume is inadequate.

The boring side of the case. A few small ventilation holes are available, but they are unfiltered.

Pre-isntalled case window, and a 8cm fan are included. The 8cm fan has four LED's that illuminate the interior of the case (see pictures below).

Enermax EG301P-VB power supply is included.

Exhaust ports with plent of holes to allow the air to move freely. Fans to mount in these ports are not included.

The seven deadly card slots. Nothing much to see here. Move along now.

Backside of the case window. 8cm LED illuminated fan is included.

Compuman 25 CFM - 40 CFM. Noise is rated between 21dB(a) and 33dB(a). A very broad audible range... but that's how Enermax has the specs listed.

Why a gold fan guard was used instead of silver one to match the rest of the case is unknown. Perhaps they wanted to match the guard used on the power supply?

Doggie treats. Motherboard stand-offs, power cable, wiring diagram for front media ports, and four hard plastic feet.

During installation, wait until you're almost done before you untie the wire bundle. Otherwise you'll be fighting to keep the wires out of your way the whole tyme.

Complete listing of everything the 300-Watt Enermax EG301P-VB has to offer.

Lenghty front mounted media port cables are well labeled. A wiring diagram to assist you is also included.

A quick-disconnect plug has been used on the connector that powers the giant LED on the front of the case. Especially handy if you're continuously making changes to your system. Modders may want to consider mounting a switch in this line to easily enable / disable the LED.

Motherboard leads are well labeled and have been "ribboned" together to help keep things tidy.

All interior edges have been rounded-off and there is plenty of room to move around inside.

To make installation even easier, the motherboard tray is removeable. Several stand-offs come preinstalled in common mounting locations. They can easily be moved around to suit your specific needs.

Excellent view of all available drive bays. Note the two unfiltered intake fan ports in front of the 3.5" drive bays. I really dislike unfiltered ports, and so should you. Fans to mount in these two ports are not included.

Deep down inside the 5.25" inch bays. It is very important to note the fact that you will not be able to use the bottom two bays if you decide to keep the front LED intact. For the majority of the population this won't be a big deal, but if you have a lot of gear you'll need to sacrifice the LED.

Back to the front mounted LED one more time. Notice how the bottom two blanking plates have been fused together to create a mounting point for the LED. These plates will need to be split if you want to use the bay(s).

Clearly numbered screw points on the 5.25" and 3.5" bays will help eliminate the cuss words you would normally use when you realize you've mounted your CD-Rom drive too far forward.

Naked.

The door on the front of the case is secured by a clip. It is large enough to prevent accidental breakage.

Extreme close-up of the front mounted LED. Two colors, blue and green, are available depending on the model number.

Generic shot of the front mounted LED in action. This light is very bright. It was difficult to capture the true luminosity with 'bits'.

Getting up close and personal with the 8cm LED enabled fan.

Even though there are only 4 LED's in the 8cm fan, the interior of the case is illuminated quite well. The fan is also relatively quiet.

This case is also available in two other color schemes, silver with silver and grey trim & black with red silver trim.

Conclusion
The Enermax CS-528 is a good all-around steel case, offering many sought after base-line features such as an included 300-Watt power supply, a removeable motherboard tray, pre-installed case window with a 4 LED fan, front mounted media ports, and room for pleny of cooling fans. It does however lack a few "luxury" features, such as thumbscrews, modular drive bays, intake fan filters, and the inclusion of more than one cooling fan.

Deciding which features you can live with, and which features you can live without is the hard part. Fortunately for us, that decision making process ultimately falls upon your shoulders. Our job is to fairly list what the case has to offer in a manner that is easy for you to understand. This way, you as the consumer can make an educated decision and spend your money wisely.

In closing, we would like the thank our sponsors MPCParts.com and MWave.com for their generousity and continued support of LWD.
